What Remission Really Involves
Some people with type 2 diabetes bring their blood sugar back into the normal range and keep it there without glucose-lowering medication. The medical term for this is remission, and food is the main lever behind it.
It usually comes down to reducing the fat stored around the liver and pancreas, easing insulin resistance and eating in a way that stops throwing your blood sugar up and down through the day. That can be done through a lower-carbohydrate approach, a Mediterranean-style way of eating, or a structured lower-calorie phase, depending on the person.
Learning how to help type 2 diabetes with nutrition starts with understanding why your blood sugar rose in the first place, because the answer is not identical for everyone. If you want help working out which approach fits you, I offer a free, no-obligation call. I am Timea Kiss, a Registered Nutritional Therapist registered with BANT and CNHC.
