Blood Sugar
If you are dragging yourself through the day no matter how much you sleep, food can make a real difference. The foods that help with perimenopause fatigue are the ones that keep your blood sugar steady and give your body the fuel and nutrients it is running low on: protein at every meal, iron-rich foods, slow-release carbohydrates, plenty of vegetables, and enough water through the day.
Perimenopause tiredness usually has more than one cause, from blood sugar that spikes and crashes to low iron from heavier periods and broken sleep, so the aim is to steady all of them together. Food will not stop perimenopause, because it is a natural stage of life, but the right foods can lift your energy and take the edge off the exhaustion.

Why Perimenopause Leaves You So Tired
Fatigue is one of the most common things people bring to me in perimenopause, and it rarely comes from one place. As oestrogen and progesterone rise and fall, your sleep is disturbed, your blood sugar becomes harder to manage, and your mood and motivation take a knock. If your periods have become heavier, you may also be losing more iron than you are taking in, which leaves you drained and short of breath on the stairs.
Understanding that there are several causes is the first step, because it explains why one quick fix never seems to work. Food helps because it can support several of these causes at once.
